Benefit is the third studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on April 20, 1970. This album was the first for the group to be recorded with the participation of pianist and organist John Evan - although he was not at that time a permanent member of the group. For the first time bassist Glenn Cornick also recorded with the band. On the UK album charts, third studio album Jethro Tull climbed to number three. The sound of this album gravitated towards hard rock and also included some advanced studio recording techniques such as playing back the flute sound on "With You There To Help Me" and accelerated guitar on "Play In Time".

In December 1970, bassist Glenn Cornick left Jethro Tull; the initiator of the departure was the manager of the group Terry Ellis (Terry Ellis), who explained this by Kornik's detachment from other members of the group.

Aqualung is the fourth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on March 19, 1971 via Chrysalis Records. Despite the band's disagreement, this album is considered a concept album; the main theme of the album is the difference between the concepts of God and religion. Due to the deep disclosure of the topic, this album was voted "one of the most thoughtful rock albums ever released". The success of the Aqualung album marked a watershed in the band's history - Jethro Tull gained recognition in and popularity on the radio, as well as tour offers.

In the renewed line-up of Jethro Tull in 1971 they recorded their most famous work - the album Aqualung. Due to the inability to spend enough time with the family due to the busy touring schedule, drummer Clive Bunker left the band in 1971. He was replaced by Barriemore Barlow.

The first part of the album "Thick as a Brick" was recorded in August 1971 at Morgan Studio 2, London, UK. The second - in November-December of the same year. "Thick as a Brick" started playing in October.

Thick as a Brick is the fifth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on March 10, 1972 via Chrysalis. This album contains only one composition - the title track, which takes up the entire duration of the album. Thick as a Brick was deliberately recorded in this format - to emphasize the conceptuality of the release. The original cover of the disc was designed as a newspaper editorial announcing that the album is an adaptation of an eight-year-old boy's novel. The songwriter was not an eight-year-old boy, but the band's frontman Ian Anderson. Anderson also produced the release. Thick as a Brick was Jethro Tull's first progressive rock release. The instrumental of the album includes the harpsichord, xylophone, timpani, violin, lute, saxophone, trumpet - instruments not typical for blues rock.

A Passion Play is the sixth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on Chrysalis on July 6, 1973 in the United Kingdom, and on July 23, 1973 in the United States. Like its predecessor, Thick as a Brick, this album is conceptual and consists of just one song. On the original vinyl release, it is split into 2 parts. The concept of this album is life after death. The release received mostly negative reviews, but sold so well that it peaked at # 1 on the US charts. In the UK charts, it reached only 13th position.

War Child is the seventh studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on Chrysalis on October 14, 1974 in the United States, and on October 26 of the same year in the United Kingdom. Initially, this album was supposed to be the soundtrack for the film, and the album itself was supposed to be double. Later, the release was cut to ten tracks within one album, as it was not possible to find a sponsoring studio for the film.

War Child was planned as a metaphysical black comedy about a teenage girl and her life after death. The plot described her encounters with heroes based on images of God, St. Peter and Lucifer (depicted as an astute businessman). Three songs on this album - "Only Solitaire", "Bungle in the Jungle" and "Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day", were recorded in 1972-1973. and were planned for an album following Thick as a Brick.

Minstrel in the Gallery is the eighth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on Chrysalis on September 5, 1975 in the United Kingdom, and on September 8 of the same year in the United States. Ian Anderson became the songwriter, and their cynical style probably reflects his discouragement after his recent divorce from Jenny Franks, the tiredness of constant touring, and the very fact of recording an album far from home in Monte Carlo. The title of the album refers to the space reserved for minstrels in the large halls of castles and estates. The album as a whole was reminiscent of Aqualung, combining gentle acoustic things with sharper compositions based on Barr's electric guitar passages. Reviews from critics were mixed, while fans generally reacted favorably to the new work of their favorites. Soon after the release of the disc, the team again suffered losses in the composition. This time bassist Hammond said goodbye to the band, who decided to quit music and concentrate entirely on painting. The vacancy was to be filled by John Glasscock, who had previously played in the flamenco rock band Carmen, who had accompanied Jethro Tull on a previous tour. On tour in 1975, David Palmer, a longtime arranger for the orchestra, officially joined Jethro Tull as keyboardist.

Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die! Is the ninth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on Chrysalis on April 23, 1976 in the United Kingdom, and on May 17 of the same year in the United States. This album is considered to be conceptual. Album "Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die!" was digitally mastered and re-released in 2002 on CD with bonus tracks not included in the original LP: "Small Cigar" and "Strip Cartoon". This album was the first for the band to feature John Glascock on bass and backing vocals. The song 'Big Dipper' is a reference to the roller coaster ride of the same name at the Blackpool theme park. Ian Anderson again produced this album. Later, from September to November, the band recorded their next album "Songs From The Wood" at London's Morgan Studios and Maison Rouge Mobile Studio.

Songs from the Wood is the tenth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on Chrysalis Records on February 11, 1977. This album was the first of the band's three folk-rock albums (followed by Heavy Horses and Stormwatch), although folk elements were present in the band's work both before and after these releases. Songs from the Wood was the band's first album to receive the overwhelming majority of positive reviews since the release of Thick as a Brick in 1972. With a characteristic folk sound, this album was a step away from the had-rock traditions of the band's previous releases, but the band's sound did not lose its "recognition".

Heavy Horses is the eleventh studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, recorded in January at Maison Rouge Studio, released on Chrysalis on April 10, 1978 in the United States, and on April 21 of the same year in the United Kingdom. This album is the second in a trilogy of folk albums by Jethro Tull. The first was the album Songs from the Wood, released a year earlier. Heavy Horses, however, has thrown away many of the artistic folk elements of the previous album, bringing a fresh, realistic take on today's fickle world. This album is the last for the band to feature John Glascock on bass and backing vocals on all tracks.

On September 22, a double live album Bursting Out was released, containing the band's vibrant and dynamic performances. The composition of the participants of this particular period is recognized by the majority of fans of the ensemble as "golden". Anderson's direct communication with the audience and colleagues gave a special touch to Jethro Tull's performances. Ian, with his characteristic harsh humor, often teased his comrades (“David went to take a piss. But he’s already back. Did you forget to shake your buddy well?”). While touring the United States, bassist John Glascock developed serious health problems; Anderson asked his friend Tony Williams (ex-Stealers) to take the vacant seat.

Stormwatch is the twelfth studio album by British rock band Jethro Tull, released on Chrysalis Records on September 14, 1979. This album is the second in a trilogy of folk albums by Jethro Tull. The first was the album Songs from the Wood (1977), and the second was Heavy Horses, released in 1978. Folk elements, nevertheless, were always present in the work of the group. Among other things, the album touches on topics such as environmental protection, issues related to the oil trade, as well as money. Glascock finally left the band in the summer of 1979 due to a progressive illness; in the fall of the same year, he died while undergoing complex heart surgery. The band's new bassist is Dave Pegg of Fairport Convention. Together with him, Jethro Tull went on a tour, at the end of which Barlow left the group, depressed by the death of Glascock.
